International Matches
For many shooters, the opportunity to represent Great Britain represents their ultimate shooting ambition.
There are several International Matches (featured below) that give .22 shooters a chance at this goal through team matches; either postal, shoulder-to-shoulder, or a combination of these.
The Rifle Committee selects the Officials for the Dewar, Drew, Randle, Roberts / Pershing and Wakefield – they are chosen based on several factors including their level of experience, knowledge of the match and their ability to provide outstanding prospects for assisting the team both as a whole and each individual team member, to achieve the best possible result in representing Great Britain.
You’ll find a little information on each Match along with the current details below.
We’ve created two A4 posters to help spread the word at your club, poster 1 is for your clubhouse and poster 2 works great for email

The various postal international matches organised by the NSRA and NRA of America have a shooting period that last most of the year. This enables the various nations from across the globe that compete in these events to shoot during their main outdoor shooting season or at their national championship meeting(s). Therefore, the results of these matches are not generally available until the spring of the following year.
As soon as all nations have submitted their scores, a summary is included in On Target and the full results are shared with the respective teams and then published online.
GB Dewar
The Dewar Match for the Lord Dewar Cup was first contested in 1909 and organised by the NSRA. Open to teams of 20, with two reserves plus a Captain and Adjutant, all shooting positions and equipment must comply with NSRA rules. The Dewar Match is a shoulder-to-shoulder event with the course of fire being a Single Dewar (20 shots at 50 metres/yards and 20 shots at 100 yards) shot outdoors on NSRA approved targets.
Trying out for the Dewar GB Team
The selection process for the Team is multi-phased approach with a Postal Trial then an in person, or Shoulder-to-Shoulder Trial, which is held on the same day as the Dewar Match.
The initial selection stage is based on a Postal Trial, with a few exceptions. Automatic invites are sent out to certain Class X and A shooters who met the results requirements set out in the Dewar GB Team Match Selection Policy, at the prior year’s Bisley National Rifle Meeting or Haig Meeting.
The Postal Trial’s course of fire is a Double Dewar (40 shots at 50metres/yards and 40 shots at 100 yards) shot on any suitable range and on NSRA approved paper targets.
We’d like to say a huge thanks to 2025 GB Dewar Team Captain, Neil Almond, for collating the Dewar stats below, which include the Dewar participants from 1995 – 2025 and a record of Dewar Match scores.

GB Roberts & Pershing Matches
There are two international matches held shoulder-to-shoulder between Great Britain and the United States of America.
The Pershing Match and the Roberts Match are each shot every eight years, the former at Camp Perry, Ohio and the latter at Bisley Camp, during the NSRA Bisley National Rifle Meeting.
Both matches are for teams of 10, over a course of 40 shots per team member:
· The Pershing Match over a Dewar course on American Decimal targets;
· The Roberts Match over a modified Dewar course on current NSRA Targets.
The method of selecting each Great Britain team is decided by the Rifle Committee, in consultations with the Captain, and is announced in the Rifleman. A team is normally selected on the basis of trials and an element of the selection arrangement is likely to refer to the leading scorers in the Bisley National Rifle Meeting Championship Aggregate in the year prior to the match, However, there may well be additional methods of obtaining a place as a trialist.
