The Government are seeking to use a Legislative Reform Order made under the Legislative and Regulatory Reform Act 2006, that will effectively remove the need for moderators to be placed on a Firearms Certificate.
They propose to amend the definition of firearm in section 57(1)(d) of the Firearms Act 1968 to remove the reference to sound moderators.
This is a sensible move and clearly, good news for shooters who use them for target shooting and other shooting activities.

Just a quick announcement to let you know that squadding for BOAG has been completed and was sent out to competitors on 1st February.
For all those trying to sneak in late entries (it closed on 15th December!) you have missed your shot.
We want as many shooters to enter as possible and have a great time competing in all our events but please make sure you get your entries to all competitions in on time, as late entries delay all aspects of the competition for everyone and make it incredibly hard for the Competitions Team to do their job.
We're happy to announce the National Small-bore Rifle Meeting dates have now also been formally booked with the NRA for rental of their range for the event.
The dates are:
10th – 17th August 2024
Entry forms will be released in due course. Keep an eye on our website and social media posts for updates.
