Volunteering - An Alternative Way To Get Involved

Volunteering at the NSRA

NSRA Bisley HQ is a small team running big events, while also supporting target shooting nationally. We rely on the generosity of volunteers to help make our competitions and activities possible, and even an hour of your time can make a real difference.

Volunteers support us with competitions and behind‑the‑scenes tasks throughout the year, particularly around our major events:

Key events each year include:

  • February – British Open Air Gun Championships (BOAG)

  • August – Bisley National Rifle Meeting

  • September – NSRA ELEY Final (Main)

We are always keen to hear from anyone who can spare some time before, during or after these events. In particular, the Bisley National Rifle Meeting requires weeks of preparation beforehand to get Century Range ready, as well as a dedicated team to help during the event and take everything down afterwards.

Why volunteer with NSRA?

Volunteering with NSRA isn’t just about helping events run smoothly — it’s also a rewarding and enjoyable experience in its own right.

Many of our volunteers tell us they enjoy:

  • Meeting new people and making friends
Work alongside like‑minded people from across the shooting community in a welcoming, supportive environment.

  • Being part of something bigger
Help deliver national‑level competitions and support the future of target shooting in the UK.

  • Learning new skills
Gain experience in event delivery, range operations, customer support, teamwork and problem‑solving — useful skills both within and outside the sport.

  • Flexibility
You can volunteer as little or as often as you like. Whether it’s a single hour, a day, or several days during an event, every contribution is valued.

  • A real sense of achievement
There’s nothing quite like seeing a successful event come together and knowing you helped make it happen.

Volunteering is also a great way to feel more connected to the sport, especially if you enjoy being involved beyond competing or spectating.

New to volunteering? You’ll be very welcome

If you’ve never volunteered before, or you’re feeling a bit unsure about getting involved, please don’t worry — you wouldn’t be the only one. Many of our volunteers started out feeling the same way. You’ll never be left to fend for yourself, and there’s no expectation that you already know how everything works. We’ll explain what’s needed, match tasks to your comfort level, and make sure there’s always someone on hand to help. Whether you’re quietly helping behind the scenes or enjoying being part of a busy event team, you’ll be joining a friendly, supportive group who are genuinely pleased to have you.

What kind of roles are available?

There are many different ways to help, and no two days are the same. Tasks may include:

  • Range preparation and set‑up

  • Reception and competitor support

  • Assisting range officials

  • General event support during competitions

  • Taking down and restoring the range after events

You don’t need prior experience for most roles — support and guidance are always available.

Get involved

If you’d like to be a key part of the Bisley National Rifle Meeting or any other NSRA event, you can volunteer at any point and for any amount of time. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who helps, whether you’re new to volunteering or a familiar face.
