British Open Air Gun (BOAG) Championships

The British Open Air Gun Championships (BOAG) is a much-loved event and staple of the air gun calendar, providing a weekend of competition and a celebration of everything air gun!

Originally called the British Air Weapons Championships, the first British Open Air Gun Championships was held on 19th – 20th October 1974 at the National Sports Centre for Wales, Cardiff, which had only been built 3 years prior and boasted its state-of-the-art facilities.  At this time both NSRA Bisley & NSRA Aldersley did not exist, so the venue was the perfect choice for the inaugural event. You can read more about the history of BOAG here

Over 50 years on, BOAG is still going strong!  This fantastic weekend is a great chance to test yourself against your peers and experience the air gun community at its finest. BOAG entries typically open in October and close by mid December.

We hope you will join us and experience this highlight of the air gun calendar this February!

2026

Entry for the 2026 British Open Air-Gun Championships (BOAG) is now open!

For 2026, the British Open Air-Gun Championships (BOAG) will adopt a revised format to better accommodate the available space. The event will be held over two weekends at the Lord Roberts Centre, Bisley:

  • Air Rifle, Air Pistol & Disabled Prone: 20–22 February 2026

  • Sporter Air Rifle: 28 February – 1 March 2026

Air Rifle & Air Pistol

The British Open Air-Gun Championship for Air Rifle & Air Pistol consists of the British Championship and two NSRA Competitions, there are also multiple competitions shot concurrent within these, but these are the main three.

The British Championship

  • Shot under ISSF rules

  • Consists of two stages: qualification and final

  • Fixed squadding – no changes permitted

NSRA Competitions

  • Shot under NSRA rules

  • Aggregate 1 is shot concurrently with British Championship qualification

  • Aggregate 2 is squadded separately – competitors may choose their squad (first come, first served). If a squad is full, NSRA will reassign squadding.

  • Aggregate 1 + Aggregate 2 = overall aggregate score

The course of fire for all competitors & competitions is 60 shots to count per detail, except for those in the British Championship Finals, which will follow the Paris 2024 rules and course of fire.

We apologise that this year we will not be able to facilitate a “just for honours” Rifle SH1 + SH2 Final, we are hoping to rectify that in 2027.

Sporter Rifle

  • The Sporter Championship

  • The Sporter Competition

  • An aggregate score combining both

Each competition consists of a 40-shot course of fire, with the aggregate scored out of 80 shots.

  • Squadding is first come, first served. NSRA may reassign squadding if chosen squads are full

  • No finals for Sporter competitions

Entries

To help make things more efficient we are changing the entry process, all entries are to be made via the electronic BOAG 2026 Entry Form. If you would like assistance filling in the entry form, please email competitions@nsra.co.uk and we will organise a time to talk you through it.

Please note, entries are limited for all competitions and will be on a first come, first served basis.  We have based our 2026 plan on 2025 entry numbers and will run a waitlist of competitors, so if we are able to accommodate more shooters, we will. If you would like to join the waitlist, please email competitions@nsra.co.uk

Unlike previous years where there has been an extended entry period, this year there will be no late entry available, so please be aware of this and enter promptly to avoid missing out!

Entries will close on 15th December 2025 at 11:45pm and we hope you’ll join us for another fantastic BOAG Championships!
