Volunteer Opportunity: VI Lead Volunteer
Help share target shooting with everyone
Target shooting can offer something rare: focus, independence and confidence — and for Blind and Visually Impaired (VI) shooters, it can be genuinely life‑changing.
Using sound to locate the centre of the target, acoustic shooting offers the same challenges, satisfaction and sense of achievement as sighted shooting and is a recognised international discipline.
We’re looking for a VI Lead Volunteer to become the key point of contact for Blind and VI target shooting within the NSRA. This is a rewarding, hands-on role supporting existing VI groups, helping new groups get started, and ensuring shooters have the adapted equipment and confidence they need to take part and compete.
This role isn’t about being an engineer or a technician — it’s about people, problem‑solving and inclusion.
What does the role involve?
Supporting established Blind and VI shooting groups and helping nurture new ones
Advising on the use of adapted VI equipment, including EcoAims and Swarovski sights
Developing a working knowledge of VI sights to assist with basic setup, minor repairs and maintenance
Liaising with manufacturers when specialist technical support is needed
Working closely with current VI Lead Charlie Blow during a supported handover period
Who might this suit?
You don’t need prior experience with VI shooting equipment — training, handover and support are built in.
This role could be ideal for someone who:
Enjoys helping others succeed
Likes learning how things work
Has empathy, patience and good communication skills
Believes sport should be accessible to everyone
Wants a meaningful volunteer role with real impact
Why this role matters
For many Blind and VI shooters, having the right person alongside them — someone who understands the kit and can offer reassurance — is the difference between taking part and giving up.
By stepping into this role, you’ll be helping ensure that Blind and VI shooting continues to grow, thrive and welcome new participants across the country.
If you’ve ever wanted to volunteer in a way that genuinely makes a difference, this could be it.
