Paris Olympics Starts Soon!

The 33rd Olympiad kicks off tomorrow with the Opening Ceremony and the shooting competitions begin on 27th July at the Châteauroux Shooting Centre, the official shooting venue for the 2024 Olympics and Paralympics.

Approximately 265km / 165 miles from Paris, it’s roughly a 3-hour drive or over 2 hours by train.  The Châteauroux Shooting Centre or The Centre National de Tir Sportif, is located in central France, just outside Châteauroux-Déols.  The former military base was purchased in 2012 by the French Shooting Federation, and it opened in 2018.  It covers many different target shooting disciplines, hosting anything between 10 – 600 metres and is currently the largest venue of its kind in Europe.

The Centre, with a capacity of 3,000 people, has hosted national, European, and international competitions. It now looks forward to welcoming 340 Olympic athletes and 160 Paralympic athletes between 26th July and 6th September.

Olympic Team GB shooters Seonaid McIntosh and Mike Bargeron will be in action from 27th July starting with the 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team Qualification.  They are both competing in the 10m Air Rifle, 50m Rifle 3P along with the 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team competition.

We hope Mike and Seonaid have a fantastic Games and wish them every success!

Our Team GB Paralympians, Matt Skelhon, Tim Jeffery, Ryan Cockbill and Issy Bailey, wait in the wings for now as the Paralympics begin on 28th August. We’ll be featuring them nearer the time and we’ll make sure you have the timetable so you can check out when everyone’s competing.
