Great Britain Randle Team Results

Jacky Perkins takes us through this very successful shoot.

The weather at the 2024 Bisley meeting was its usual challenging self!  Wind, sun, rain and mostly pretty warm.  However, the ladies shooting were in good form and we were able to select an experienced team with eight of the team coming from X Class and two from A.  Our two reserves were one from X and one from A.

The team selected to shoot were:

Louise Aiken

Sue Norman

Wendy Foith

Vivien Minett

Lina Jones

Shelbie Marsland

Jane Newing

Linda Smallbone

Karen McCarthy

Diane Russell

Reserves were:

Vicky Holme

Leah Brough Thomas

Only one member was new to the Randle Match, Louise Aiken.

Our witness was Phil Martin, who was over for the meeting from Australia and our Range Officer was Jon Leech.  Barbara Lee had kindly agreed to score the cards.

Also getting up at this unearthly hour of the morning were our very important wind coaches:

Jill Norman, Yvette Edwards, Alison Leech, Karen’s Mum, Sara Marshall, Lindsay Agates, Maria Popham, Sheena Sharp, Susan Day

On Thursday morning we all gathered on the range to wait for dawn.  Although it promised to be another warm day it was chilly at that hour but the skies were clear and it was bright  and still.  Shooting began 100 yards at 06:15.

A quick look at the 100 yard cards showed an excellent start with only 2 points dropped and  a goodly number of X’s – could they keep this up for the 50 yard cards?

They not only kept it up but they bettered it, with 0 points dropped and  even more X’s!

After a nail-biting wait for the cards to be scored and witnessed it was confirmed that  the  team had scored 3998 with 287 X’s,  a new British record!!  One that has only been bettered by the American team back in 1975 with a score of 4000 and 303 X’s.  I am so proud of the whole team!

Although the countries have until the end of 2024 to shoot their cards, the United States of America and New Zealand are the only other countries competing and they had already shot their cards.  The US have confirmed Great Britain as winners of the Randle Trophy match this year.  The full results are as follows:

I would very much like to thank our sponsors this year, whose contributions allowed us to have some very smart polo shirts.  Edinkillie Sport Services, Intershoot Target Shooting and the NSRA.

Lastly, I would like to thank everyone who got up and shot at dawn, supported us, kept the team calm and helped get this amazing result.  A special thank you to my Adjutant, Susan Day, for her support and help, especially in helping match names to faces!
