Crossbow Update - No 2

Well that was a long gap. Wondered what happened since the last edition.

Hope you are well and getting the crossbows out of the shed, refletching the bolts and keen to get back into competition.

International Crossbow News

NSRA rejoins the IAU

After a lapse of several years, the NSRA has rejoined the IAU in June of this year with John Lloyd the NSRA Chair acting as the representative. This allows NSRA members to enter the various international match and field shoots across Europe and the world.

IAU Europa Cup    IAU Europa Cup

Due to covid restrictions it was not possible to hold the IAU Europa Cup in Croatia, so a postal format was arranged with competitors from as far away as India taking part as guests. The round shot was a double IAU300 at 18m. The winning scores were dominated by Croatia and Russia.

In the mens, Domagoj Pereglin (SD Dubrava) took first putting in 291/297 ahead of his fellow Croatian, Martin Oborovecki, (SD Veliko Trgovisce) who put in 291/287. Marijan Kajfes (SD Dubrava) took the bronze with 289/288.

The women’s competition was dominated by Valentina Pereglin (SD Dubrava) who led after the first round with 290 ahead of her nearest rival Milaela Oborovecki (SD Veloko Trgovisce) who had put in a 283. In the second round Valentina put in a 292 ahead of Milaela who hit 286. Anna Zhuravleva (Russia) took the bronze.

In IAU competitions, the juniors are split into two divisions. These are Junior (U21) and Cadet (U18) and in these classes, male and female shoot alongside each other as in the NSRA competitions. The Junior title went to Illia Sergeev from Russia with 286/287, while in the Cadet class it went to Serman Shaburin also from Russia with 291/293.

The senior Male competition (Over 50) was won by Zeljko Tijan from Croria with 284/282 and the Senior Woman (Over 50) Class was won by Merika Kahk from Estonia with 280/280.

Volga Cup Russia.

This was held at Soleyonoe Zaimishche, and was attended by Arbalists from Russia, Croatia, Poland and Bulgaria at the beginning of October. A IAU 600 (18M) was shot and again Domagoj Pereglin (SD Dubrava) took the gold with a score of a perfect 600 with 48 R10’s.

Silver and bronze were only decided on ring 10’s with Semen Shaburin taking the silver with 599 and 44 Ring 10’s ahead of Martin Oborovecki with 599 and 39 R10.

In the Women’s match ,Valentina Pereglin (SD Dubrava) also put in a perfect 600 with 42 R10’s. Milaela Oborovecki (SD Veloko Trgovisce) and Anna Zhuravleva (Russia) had a similar tussle to that in the mens each putting in 594 with Milaela taking silver with 29 R10’s against Anna’s 26 R10’s

The Mens Match Final, Domagoj Pereglin (SD Dubrava) beat Semen Shaburin while Valentina Pereglin (SD Dubrava) beat Milaela Oborovecki (SD Veloko Trgovisce) to take the gold.

Rules up date - Scoring

As can be seen in the international news section the use of ring tens (R10) that is 10s solely within the 10 scoring ring can be very important in deciding placings.

Ring 10’s, that is those which are in the 10 ring without cutting the line should be identified on the score sheet by an X for Sporting and Field crossbow. These are then used for count back if required.

It is useful here to remind people of the scoring conventions for crossbow as these have changed over time.

Match crossbow 10m and 30m - inward scoring
Sporting crossbow 6yd and 10m - Outward scoring
YTS Sport crossbow 6yd and 10m - Inward scoring
Field Crossbow 10m and 18m - outward scoring
35, 50 and 65m - inward scoring

YPS Proficiency Awards

Table of scores for YPS Proficiency Awards

Currently there is an award scheme for those young people taking part in the YPS Sport crossbow course. A revised scoring scheme was approved by the PAC committee during lockdown and this will now apply.

Thanks to the work of John Dahoo in crunching the numbers.
