1931 - 2019

It is with deep sadness that we report the death of Harry Hancox.

Harry was the ultimate prone rifle shooter with over fifty years of competition, coaching and administration who was always happy to lend a hand in furthering the sport of shooting. His election to the Centipede Club acknowledged all the work he put into the sport over the years.

Originally a member of the Post Office Rifle Club in Hereford, he was a founder member of Golden Valley Rifle Club and will long be remembered for organising the annual Cider Shoots on behalf of that club. He was deeply involved in the Herefordshire County Association as Chairman of the Competitions Committee and shot for many years for the County Rifle Team.

Harry was involved in encouraging shooters to improve their skills with membership of Marches Rifle Club and the West Midlands Regional Squad. He was a regular competitor at the annual Bisley Meeting and won the British Championship for the Lord Roberts Trophy.

In later life he was involved with his local community in the role of editor of the village magazine. He also involved himself in the development of shooting for the visually impaired at the Hereford College for the blind.

He will be missed by his family and all who knew him.
