Following the government announcement there has been some confusion as to whether shooting can still continue. After consultation with our colleagues at British Shooting, they have obtained the following explanation of the situation:

Following the announcement by the Prime Minister at 4pm this afternoon, Sport England has issued the update below having liaised with DCMS on the matter throughout the day.

We have sought clarity on what this means for sport and physical activity, and while social gatherings of more than six people will be banned in England from 14 September, the government has confirmed that organised sports and activities that have been through return to play protocols can continue, as can organised outdoor sports and physical activity events such as parkrun, which is due to return next month.

People can also continue to use leisure facilities, including gyms and pools - classes within these venues can continue as they are now. People should not go to these venues socially in groups of more than six.

That's because these sports and activities have stringent plans in place to reduce the risk of Covid-19, and because these venues are classed as Covid-secure given the measures they’ve introduced.

In other words, this does not impact on our current procedures – however, as in all things COVID related, the situation can change at short notice.

Please remember the “hands, face, space” mantra – especially away from field of play.

From the perspective of NSRA Clubs this means we can continue to shoot provided we maintain the current system of operating. Please ensure you follow the Government Guidance and more specifically, the NSRA Guidance that comes from it. This means not only writing the risk assessments and procedures to be followed by your club but also ensuring that all members follow them.
