New Centre Manager of the Lord Roberts Centre Tim Woolford talks about his shooting experience and increasing activity within his new role.

I've recently joined the Lord Roberts Centre at Bisley as the Centre Manager.

Its been a very busy first few weeks for me as the centre reopened and we welcomed visitors back, but with COVID-secure restrictions still very much in place.

50m range (.22 rifle)I have background in sales, hospitality and facilities management and I'm also a shooter. I first starting shooting as a teenager back in the late 1970's first with prone rifle, then moving onto .22 and full bore pistol, shooting a range of disciplines from standard pistol to practical pistol. After a long break I started shooting again in 2017, joining Harrow Rifle and Pistol Club, where I now shoot 10m air pistol, 10m air rifle and .22 bench rest rifle. I've also been a regular visitor to the Lord Roberts Centre, shooting as a guest of the British Pistol Club each month.

This is very much my dream job as it combines my business experience and interests with a hobby I love. As you can imagine there is always a lot going on behind the scenes to keep the centre running smoothly. I'm lucky to have a great team with Megan Pawson, Ann Roberts, Dave Chapman and Peter Brett who also recently joined us, being very ;much the 'friendly faces' of the centre.

10m range (.177 target air pistol and rifle)The current social distancing rules have meant that capacity across all ranges has been reduced as we need to ensure 2m spacing between firing points. I'd like to thank the clubs and individual shooters who have worked with us to follow the rules and ensure the centre has remained a safe place for both staff and visitors.

We also have a number of meeting spaces available and I'm very keen for the Lord Roberts Centre to be seen as a venue for business meetings especially as we can combine meetings with shooting which can be a great team building activity. We have qualified instructors, who can work with businesses to create shooting experiences that are, fun, competitive and safe. Please do contact me if this sounds of interest either to your organisation or maybe someone you know.

Ascot Meeting Room.As I mentioned earlier its great to see shooters returning to the centre again and I felt very proud that we were able to play a small part in Team GB's preparations for the Tokyo Paralympic Games when the squad recently visited the Lord Roberts Centre.

Lord Roberts Centre – outside view.Like all venues we've been heavily impacted by the recent COVID lockdown, so increasing activity within the Lord Roberts Centre is absolutely my number one priority. Please do contact me if you are interested in shooting, or holding an event at the Lord Roberts Centre and if you are visiting the centre, do say hello.
