New firearm certificate fees come into force on Monday 6 April 2015. The following is the official guidance on applications made before 6 April in respect of certificates that will come into force after that date.
Firearms licensing applications received by the police on or after 6th April 2015 will incur the new fee. If an application and related payment has been received by the police on or before 5th April, the police will honour the fee that has been paid. Applications to renew firearm and shot gun certificates should continue to be made within the usual timescales (please check the police force website for this information). Applicants should not apply ‘extra early’ in order to avoid paying the new certificate fees. In these cases the police may return applications and request that the new fee is paid.
The principal new firearm fees are £88 for a grant (previously £50) and £62 for a renewal (previously £40). Fees were last increased in 2001. The full Order bringing the new fees into effect is available as a download from the Government website.
