2. More Information

To address concerns from our membership that the NSRA were not being sufficiently involved as to where the shooting should be taking place at the 2012 Olympics, and why we appeared to be supporting Woolwich as the chosen venue, we decided to publish our alternative proposals, presented before Christmas to LOCOG, to promote Bisley as the venue.

This would allow the membership to see first hand just what we have been trying to achieve, and that we are actively working on their behalf to improve and further the interests of our Association

Also, did we support the proposals for Woolwich and if so WHY?

It is vitally important that Legacy should result for all sports from the Olympics coming to London. There are plans for a number of NGBs to benefit from facilities being built for the games and some from facilities to be provided after the Games are over. If Woolwich is to be used for the shooting events there are at present no plans for any meaningful Legacy, LOCOG tell us that the electronic targetry and a demountable Air Gun range will be available, but who has the space or the resources to fund and run such a facility?  We do know just how costly and difficult this is from our experiences with Lord Roberts Centre.

Legacy has been continiously upheld as being vitally important for all sports but if there is to be no Legacy from Woolwich how are we to find and train future winners not just for 2012 but for all the Olympic Games to come. How can LOCOG plan to pull down their proposed shooting facilities after 2012 when they should be built here at Bisley at the National Shooting Centre and where they will be used for tens of years to come. They have only to look at the success the NRA and the NSRA are now making of the facilities built for the Commonwealth Games to realise that.

LEGACY DOES MATTER and is of PRIME IMPORTANCE

If after reading this you feel that the Olympic shooting should again be at Bisley why not write or email the BOA, LOCOG and your MP and let your views be known.

The respective addresses or how to find them are listed in item 12. Useful Addresses.
