London Olympics 2012
Intoduction
In February 2007 the shooting events are still planned by the British Olympic Association (BOA) to be at Woolwich in temporary built facilities at an estimated cost of over 20 million pounds with nothing left after clearing it all away. The cost of building the Small-Bore and Shotgun ranges at Bisley for the Commonwealth Games six years ago was just over 6 million pounds with full legacy. There would appear to be no rhyme or reason for choosing Woolwich, except that it is closer to the Olympic village. It is more costly to build and staff, there is no legacy and for the people of Woolwich it will be unacceptably noisy. For most of the shooting competitors it will not be ideal: they will be seeking peace and quiet to build concentration prior to competition, and will not be looking for the noise and activity of the village before they shoot. It would be far better to build extra facilities at Bisley where the shooting should rightly be held and where most knowledgeable people think it should be - at THE NATIONAL SHOOTING CENTRE. Bisley was the correct venue for the London Olympics in 1908 and in 1948. Also correct for the Manchester Commonwealth Games in 2002, why is it then NOT suitable for the Olympic Games in London in 2012? |
